On Visibility
I have found stepping into greater visibility this year both challenging and, at times, scary.
The old voices in my head kept taunting me: “Who do you think you are, to be so out there?”
“Why?” you might ask. “You seem to be seeking out such visibility?”
We all have backstories, and mine is that I grew up excruciatingly shy, almost ashamed to take up space. I was the plump, spotty one in a sporty, academic family. I often felt alien in a family of high achievers—both on the sports field and in the academic world.
Footprints
It was a late afternoon on a breathless day. We made our way down the rough-hewn steps over rocks and fallen trees to the secret beach hidden below. My husband and I were in a wilderness area whilst visiting our daughter in Australia.

I recently attended the Global Speakers Summit in Bali. It was a bucket list experience, hearing from some of the top speakers in the world, many of whom have been professional speakers for 20 – 30 years.
As a “soul speaker,” one speaker really stood out at the convention, even among all the accomplished speakers.

Last week, my global Public Relations company asked me whether I would comment on the headline statement that read, “We won’t be silent as apartheid is perpetrated against others”. It was a headline extracted from a speech made by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the United Nations.
I responded by saying, “I think that is too controversial for me to comment on.”

In the blue eyes of my own truth- telling, I had found the oceans of my healing. Finally confronting the sea of my memories buried deep in the ocean floor for so long. And so I surfaced from the ocean and I stepped into the light of the shore. Looking up at the majesty of Table Mountain - an iconic symbol of the world.
