Professional Speakers Association of South Africa Annual Convention,2026

Every now and then, in this journey of life, you meet a weekend where it meets you in the evolution of your story and the deepening of your messaging.

This past weekend was life altering, and I do not say that lightly. From the moment I entered the balmy, warm energy of Natal at the PSASA (Professional Speakers Association of South Africa) Annual Convention, I was gifted an immersion I never foresaw, quite in the way it landed.

From the warmth of the organizers preceding the event, to the remarkable performances of beautiful singers, dancers, creatives, artists, incredible MCs, and riveting speakers, every moment mattered. Every contribution lived the message of riding the waves of change, with mystery, magic, and metaphor, incredible singers belting out songs like “I Believe” to an audience of inspiring, emerging, and seasoned speakers, some of whom have been speaking for 20 to 30 years. And yet this remarkable community is steeped in mentoring, with wisdom, generosity, and an incredible spirit of collaboration.

This was a convention of Meaning Makers, a deeply soulful immersion from the opening speaker to the poignant poetry that pervaded every day, deep lessons from the front line, deep messages from the river. The silence when one heart stops and another life begins, lessons from a transplant surgeon.

This convention was a poem of the senses, and my message became a prayer from the stage, a prayer for young speakers to step into courage, not in confidence but in conviction, to become revolutionary thought leaders and agents of change, to become healers of hatred and soldiers of peace, makers of meaning who take the mess of the world into the message we craft, the true meaning of the word “Messenger.”

This message had been percolating in my soul for five long months through a series of deep counselling and research around shame and courage.

The message deepened as the months progressed, and it became a rite of passage of deepening perspective and paradigms of possibility.

The privilege of sharing the stage at such a soulful event was deeply moving to me.

Whilst curating this message, I had joined the dots backwards in my life in a way I had never quite done before, from accidental activist to accidental entrepreneur and to finally finding my true identity as a vulnerable storyteller and as a writer who speaks.

So if you think your message doesn’t matter, I want you to sit in the enormity of your unique journey and why you came to earth in this shape, in this form, in this country, in this continent, and on this planet.

Because of 8.3 billion people, only you have the unique voice you have been gifted. Only you have the unique story you have been born into. And only you have the unique story that unlocks your courage. The courage to step into the arena of your voice, whether that be in your family, in your community, or in your life in all its deepest forms. The word ENcouragement is passing on the Baton of Courage to those who feel alone, who feel hopeless, and helpless.

The world needs your voice like never before. We need your songs, we need your poetry.

What if you had the courage to surrender shame and to step into the voice of who you were truly meant to be?

The voice that you were gifted. The voice that sits quietly, suffocated and stifled by other people’s opinions, by other people’s voices. By the death knell of comparison, the killer of curiosity and courage…

What if you stepped forward, not in confidence but in the conviction that your message really mattered?

What if?
